Costa del Sol - The Courses
Step off your flight in Malaga and head straight for one of these great golf courses...
VALDERAMMA
18 holes 6956 yards Par 71
Host of the 1997 Ryder Cup and voted the best course in Continental Europe by Golf World. The course provides a difficult test with cork trees and olive groves tightly lining the fairways with well placed bunkers and infamous water hazards. However, the manicured fairways and lightning fast greens make this course a must for any golfer.
SOTOGRANDE
18 holes 6884 yards Par 72
This Robert Trent Jones designed course opened in 1964 and is often voted amongst the top ten courses in Europe. The surrounding vegetation is well matured with oaks, pines, eucalyptus and palm trees, and the water hazards make this a beautiful but difficult course.
SAN ROQUE
18 holes 7043 yards Par 72
Architect Dave Thomas designed the two nines to reflect the difference in the landscape and the result provides a tremendously varied challenge. The fairways sweep through groves of cork and oak and past rushing streams, before heading upward over more open meadowland. The course culminates in a series of holes dominated by lakes.
LOS FLAMINGOS
Par 72 18 holes 6600 yards
Los Flamingos is one of several new courses on the Costa del Sol, but in our opinion this one tops the lot! The course is built on undulating ground with large waterhazards and punitive bunkering which make it a tough course for the errant golfer. However, with a selection of different tees on each hole and panoramic views over the surrounding area it is an enjoyable course for the golfers of all abilities. Host to the 2002 seniors matchplay, we think Los Flamingos is set to become one of the coast's must play courses.
PARADOR
18 holes 6717 yards Par 72
The oldest course on the Costa del Sol, Parador is one of the easiest courses to walk. The front nine is mainly parkland while on the back nine you’ll find yourself playing by the sea on a links style layout. An enjoyable course to play and host to the Turespana Masters in 1999
TORREQUEBRADA
18 holes 6385 yards Par 72
One of the most popular and challenging courses on the coast. Built on undulating terrain, the fairways wind through the foothills of the Mijas mountains, offering some spectacular coastal views. A previous host of the Spanish Open.
SOUTH COURSE
18 holes 6504 yards Par 72
Guadalmina claims 2 of the oldest courses on the coast. Situated at the foot of the Sierra Blanca the North Course is relatively flat, but tight. The South Course plays out towards the sea and is considered to be the more difficult of the two.
LA QUINTA
27 holes 6377 yards & 2980 yards Par 72
Cleverly designed through a picturesque valley, La Quinta is one of the coast's best maintained courses. Club selection and accuracy are vital, as well as a deft touch on the fast greens.
LOS NARANJOS
18 holes 6708 yards Par 72
Designed by Trent Jones, this excellent but long course is a thorough test with two contrasting nines. The front nine is undulating and surrounded by urbanisations. The back nine is flatter and is cut through orange groves.
EL PARAISO
18 holes 6365 yards Par 72
Designed in 1974 by Gary Player this is a popular course in a picturesque setting with gently rolling terrain and strategically placed lakes and streams. Major works were carried out during 1999 to bring it back into excellent condition.
ESTEPONA
18 Holes 6600 yards Par 72
The most improved golf course in the area, Estepona provides a good challenge of golf with tight fairways and long par 3’s. The course is excellent value for money and normally quiet, a buggy is recommended.
MARBELLA
18 holes 6450 yards Par 71
Not to be confused with the Marbella Club Resort, Marbella Golf Club is one of the oldest and most prestigious clubs on the Costa del Sol. Situated just off the coastal road, this short but testing course, requires good, accurate shot making to cope with the small greens and tight fairways. Now back to its best condition after the motorway works of last year.
ALHAURIN
18 holes 6843 yards Par 72
A Majestic course that is as tough a test of golf as you can find in Spain. A hilly course that provides unparalleled views, with narrow fairways and tight approaches, designed by Seve Ballesteros, for mid to low handicappers only.
LA CALA – NORTH COURSE
18 holes 6527 yards Par 72
LA CALA – SOUTH COURSE
18 holes 6315 yards Par 71
Both the North & South courses offer a great test of your game. Situated a short distance inland, the Bermuda and Pencross grasses give both courses a very lush feel with a combination of tight and generous rolling fairways and well-protected greens. The North course is the higher of the two with some breathtaking mountain views, especially from the 16th tee.
MIJAS - LOS LAGOS
18 holes 6942 yards Par 72
MIJAS - LOS OLIVOS
18 holes 6490 yards Par 72
Mijas offers two contrasting Robert Trent Jones courses. Los Lagos is long and open, therefore accuracy is not so vital. However, beware of the many water hazards (eight lakes in all). Los Olivos is shorter, with more trees and smaller greens where the accurate golfer is rewarded.
MONTE MAYOR
18 holes 5925 yards Par 71
Set in an entirely rural area, Pepe Gancedo has made full use of the river valley to bring water into play on seven holes. Raised tees, narrow fairways and ravines to play across, make this an enjoyable course to play.
SANTA MARIA
18 holes 6371 yards Par 70
One of the most popular courses on the coast designed by Ryder Cup player Antonio Garrido. The course follows the contours of a valley and although not particularly long, its narrow fairways make accuracy vital.
RIO REAL
18 holes 6546 yards Par 72
Opened in 1965 this is one of the most established courses in the area. The Rio Real river crosses the course creating a water hazard on several holes. Its beautifully wide fairways and fast greens make this an enjoyable course to play.
LOS ARQUEROS
18 holes 6461 yards Par 72
The first course on the coast designed by Seve Ballesteros. Spectacular views of the Mediterranean, together with undulating terrain, well placed hazards and narrow fairways make this a very challenging course. Excellent condition.
GUADALMINA - NORTH COURSE
18 holes 6304 yards Par 72
One of the oldest courses on the Costa del Sol and is quite tight with undulating fairways. Quite a bit easier than the South course.
SANTANA GOLF & COUNTRY CLUB
18 Holes 6904 yards Par 72
This new development was only openend in 2003 and has already established itself as a favourite on the Costa Del Sol . As well as some of the best greens it has the longest par five on the coast, plenty of water hazards so you can be sure of a good test of golf.
